Here is what Barry Marshall had to say about his Day in Science in 2008 ...
I am about to leave for Russia to accompany the premier Alan Carpenter on a trade trip where I will give a lecture to gastroenterologists there. Russia has a high prevalence of the stomach bug Dr Warren and I won the Nobel prize for (Helicobacter pylori). Because of that they have lots of ulcers, lots of stomach cancer and lots of research-work in that area.
Today was also exciting because my team at Ondek did a telephone interview with a potential new scientist from Sweden. With the high value for the Australian Dollar now (94c US), this country is reversing the brain drain and highly skilled people are attracted to Perth where we are having quite a biotechnology boom.
For fun, here are two slides from my recent lecture in Indonesia.
